A low emission zone, or Protected Atmosphere Urban Zones (ZUAP), is a geographically defined area that seeks to restrict the access of certain polluting vehicles, or only allow access to low-emission (such as regular or plug-in hybrids) or zero-emission (electric) vehicles, with the purpose of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
To meet our target of having efficient urban logistics, in 2018 we conducted a pilot test on electric vehicles with the logistics company Andreani. The objective was to study the technical operational, economic and environmental performance of this technology in real operating conditions to understand the potential for a larger scale implementation.
We monitored key parameters such as energy consumption, daily operating times, distance traveled, among others, with the drivers of the units being the key players in the plan, who received follow-up and training. The 100% electric vehicles have an estimated range of 200 km and can be charged in 6 hours. These vehicles were used by Andreani for the distribution of light parcels in densely populated and congested areas during rush hours.
In order to advance in this initiative, we intend to work together with the e-commerce and urban logistics private sector to generate more actions of this type and implement efficiency plans for deliveries. This, in turn, will be accompanied by the use of bicycles, motorcycles and tricycles for the distribution of last-mile delivery. In this way, the two actions together would significantly counteract the emission of greenhouse gases and environmental noise in the city.
Did you know that there are 2.8 km2 of surface area where large trucks are not allowed to access and 1,280 blue parking spots on the pavement designated for loading and unloading only?
