We want to move towards building a sustainable, equitable, fair and diverse future. To achieve this, we promote sustainability through education and environmental management in kindergarten, primary and secondary schools through the creation of the Green Schools Program. During its first years, this project enabled us to train more than 170,000 students, recover more than 2,200 tons of recyclable material, deliver more than 100,000 bins and containers, plant 2,527 native trees, create organic vegetable gardens in more than 715 schools and train more than 22,100 teachers in environmental issues.
In 2014 we added the "Green Schools Recognition": a distinction granted by the Green Schools Program to schools that develop strategies, activities and experiences that contribute to the process of raising awareness of the importance of environmental issues. This recognition was proposed as an invitation to develop environmental education processes in schools based on the implementation of a gradual action scheme adapted to the institutional reality of each establishment for the construction of a "Green School".
So far, we have registered:
660 state schools involved in the Green Schools program in 2020.
263 private schools involved in the Green Schools program in 2020.
200 Green Schools recognized in 2020.
Thanks to the implementation of these measures, 85 schools already have LED lighting systems. In addition, more than 100 renewable energy projects devised by students have been created and seven public schools now generate the energy they consume with solar photovoltaic systems. One of them, Primary School Nº15 "Antonio Devoto", also injects the surplus energy they produce into the grid so that others can use it.
Did you know that 10% of state-run schools are recognized as green schools? In addition, 7,082 teachers have already been trained in the promotion and consolidation of environmental education.
