Green spaces help to promote biodiversity, control the temperature in large cities, and counteract noise pollution and carbon dioxide emissions.
The City has 1,139 green spaces and 3 natural urban reserves totaling more than 1,800 hectares. Between 2016 and 2022, as part of our commitments, we incorporated 110 new hectares of green spaces, areas for recreation, sports and outdoor enjoyment, which promote healthy habits and mitigate the effects of climate change. In addition, in recent years we have managed to incorporate 16 new parks, promoting this way recreational use, pedestrian mobility and sustainable mobility in the city.
One of the great riches of our city are the wetlands on which it is built. They contain the natural reserves that facilitate the strategic management of biodiversity. So important is their environmental role that the “Costanera Sur” reserve has been declared a Ramsar Site by the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance.
By 2023 our goal is to continue building an eco-friendly Buenos Aires by incorporating 100 blocks of public and green space throughout the 48 neighborhoods.
