Buenos Aires advances in climate action alongside cities around the world

Learn about different collaboration and cooperation initiatives on climate change and sustainable development.

Buenos Aires has been generating alliances with multiple global cities that pursue the same objective: to be more resilient, sustainable and inclusive.

  • Berlin: Cooperation in Energy Efficiency. We work together with Berlin to improve energy management and promote the generation of clean and efficient energy at the Pedro Elizalde Children's General Hospital.
  • Bogotá: Dialogue for climate action in Latin American cities in the Covid-19 context. Both cities have proposed to work together to actively involve Latin American cities in the development of climate policies.
  • Copenhagen: Strategic Sectorial Cooperation. Together with Copenhagen, Buenos Aires is working on the development of a strategy for the management of water resources and to improve energy efficiency in public buildings in the city.
  • Helsinki: Localization of SDGs. Buenos Aires shares with Helsinki experiences of local policies linked to the advancement of the 2030 Agenda. In 2019, both cities presented their Voluntary Local Review to the United Nations.
  • Lima: Cooperation within the framework of the Waste Wise Cities Program. Buenos Aires was selected as a “City Supporter” to advise and share its knowledge and experience with the city of Lima (“Changemaker City”) in terms of Integral Management Solid Urban Waste.
  • London: Clean Air Cities Declaration. The City of Buenos Aires adhered in 2019 to the Declaration promoted by the City of London within the framework of C40. As a result, Buenos Aires developed its action plan to meet the commitments of the pollution reduction declaration and implement substantive clean air policies.
  • Los Angeles: Green and fair recovery. Buenos Aires endorsed the statement of the Global Mayors' Covid-19 Recovery Task Force, promoted by Los Angeles and Milan at C40, for a healthy, equitable and economically sustainable post-pandemic recovery.
  • Milan: Green and fair recovery. Buenos Aires endorsed the statement of the Global Mayors Covid-19 Recovery Task Force, promoted by Los Angeles and Milan at C40, for a healthy, equitable and economically sustainable post-pandemic recovery.
  • New York: Localization of the SDGs. Buenos Aires shares with New York experiences of local policies related to the advancement of the 2030 Agenda.
  • Riyadh: Urban 20 release 2020 edition. 39 cities part of the U20, among which is Buenos Aires. They urged the G20 countries to collaborate with local governments for a green and fair recovery, and accelerate progress towards an inclusive and carbon neutral future.
  • Rome: Urban 20 Special Working Group on Covid-19. Buenos Aires co-chairs with Rome a Special Working Group, created within the framework of Urban 20, to analyze the challenges and responses of cities in the face of the crisis unleashed by the pandemic, with a focus on the financing necessary for a fair and green recovery.
  • Santiago de Chile: Exchange of experiences for the Management of organic and inorganic waste. Exchange of experiences with the Metropolitan Region of Santiago regarding the management and treatment of waste and the best environmental education and promotion strategies on this subject.
