We want the City to be a place of encounter and inclusion, where the citizens feel safe. That is why, with the collaboration of the Ministry of Public Space and Urban Hygiene, since September 2020 the City has been generating new temporary pedestrian areas located in the neighborhoods of: Retiro, San Telmo, San Nicolás, Recoleta, Almagro, Balvanera, La Boca, Boedo, Parque Chacabuco, Villa Riachuelo, Liniers, Villa Luro, Floresta, Villa Devoto, Villa Urquiza, Belgrano, Palermo and Chacarita. These new pedestrian streets are in line with the 15-minute city model to be implemented, in which people do not have to travel long distances to meet their needs, this would greatly reduce polluting emissions.

These streets are closed to vehicular traffic and have special demarcations, so that citizens can go for a stroll or enjoy the food stores.

Another advantage of the temporary pedestrian areas that we incorporated as part of the “Meeting Streets” (Calles de Encuentro) target is their multiplicity of uses. During the quarantine period and restrictions, they were a great alternative to enclosed spaces and were used to promote outdoor dining and boost businesses since these streets allow people to move around, stay and enjoy these areas specifically designed for pedestrians and their well-being.
