LED technology allows lighting systems to be more sustainable and efficient, since, with its implementation, energy savings of more than 50% are recorded, and a 30% decrease in maintenance costs.
For this reason, in the City, we set out to advance in the replacement of lights and the public energy system. In 2019, we became the first city in Latin America to have 100% LED street lighting. In addition, we optimized the lighting of more than 400 public buildings and delivered more than 1 million LED lamps to people who live in the City, with a focus on popular neighborhoods.
Currently, all public buildings in the City have LED technology. Thanks to our sustained commitment to migrate to thistechnology, we have already managed to ensure that some of them, such as the 18 corresponding to the Ministry of Culture, have fully LED luminaires.
We commit to reach 2025 with efficiency plans so that all of the public buildings can migrate completely to this system. As stated in the law N° 3246 of energy efficiency for public buildings, we promote numerous actions to reduce the energy consumption generated by the City’s Government. For this initiative, we will begin by supporting ourselves on the Law of Energy Efficiency, that will allow us to move forward and reach carbon neutrality.
