Estás en la fundación Forner-Bigatti. En este lugar vivió, en la primera mitad de 1800 el escritor Esteban Echeverría, autor del famoso libro “El Matadero”. Muchos años después, en 1938, el solar fue comprado por la artista Raquel Forner y el escultor Alfredo Bigatti para construir un edificio que combinara su vivienda y sus talleres y que es el que ves hoy.
Raquel Forner fue una pintora formada en la Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes.
Alfredo Bigatti fue un escultor, también formado en la Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes, y alumno del escultor francés Antoine Bourdelle, discípulo de Auguste Rodin. Entre las obras más sobresalientes de Bigatti se encuentran las esculturas del Monumento a la Bandera en la Ciudad de Rosario.
Tanto Raquel Forner como Alfredo Bigatti fueron parte del Grupo de París, constituído por artistas plásticos argentinos residentes en París en los años 1920.
La casa es un ejemplo de arquitectura racionalista, proyectada por el arquitecto Alejo Martinez. De acuerdo a los postulados de esta arquitectura, podés notar la utilización de volúmenes puros y la ausencia de cualquier tipo de ornamentación en la fachada. A su vez, en el edificio, la superficie destinada a los talleres para el trabajo artístico es muy superior a la dedicada a las actividades domésticas.

You are in the Forner-Bigatti Foundation. In this place lived, in the first half of 1800, the writer Esteban Echeverría, author of the famous book "El Matadero". Many years later, in 1938, the site was bought by the artist Raquel Forner and the sculptor Alfredo Bigatti to erect a building that would combine their living quarters and their workshops, which is what you see today.
Raquel Forner was a painter and sculptor trained at the National Academy of Fine Arts and belonged to the Florida Group, a group of Argentinian avant-garde artists who used to meet at the "Richmond" coffee shop on Florida Street. This group also included the writer Victoria Ocampo and the painters Antornio Berni and Emilio Pettoruti, among many others.
Alfredo Bigatti was a sculptor trained at the National Academy of Fine Arts and a disciple of the French sculptor Antoine Bourdelle, who was, in turn, a disciple of Auguste Rodin. Among Bigatti's most outstanding works are the sculptures of the Monumento a la Bandera in the city of Rosario.
Both Raquel Forner and Alfredo Bigatti were part of the Paris Group, made up of Argentine plastic artists living in Paris in the 1920s.
The house stands as an example of rationalist architecture, designed by the architect Alejo Martinez. According to the postulates of this architecture, you can notice the use of pure volumes and the absence of any kind of ornamentation on the facade. At the same time, inside the building, the area dedicated to the workshops for artistic work is much larger than the area dedicated to domestic activities.
