El hipopótamo, uno de los bares notables del Casco Histórico. Un edificio de tres pisos levantado cuando apenas iniciaba el siglo XX.
Desde las vísperas del Centenario de la Revolución de Mayo, es decir desde 1909, existe este bar en el 401 de la calle Brasil, antes llamado “La Estrella del Sur”. En su interior podés encontrar la escultura de un hipopótamo y carteles de famosas publicidades como la del Aperitivo Campari o los Cigarrillos 43, que tenían su fábrica tabacalera a pocas cuadras de acá, donde actualmente funciona el Museo Moderno.
Este bar fue escenario de varias escenas de películas argentinas y supo ser frecuentado por notables figuras de la cultura como Tita Merello o Ernesto Sábato.
You are in El Hipopótamo, one of the most notable bars in the historic center: a three-story building erected just at the beginning of the 20th century.
Since the eve of the Centenary of the May Revolution, that is, since 1909, this bar, formerly called "La Estrella del Sur", has been located at 401 Brasil Street. You can find inside a sculpture of a hippo and posters of famous advertisements such as Campari Aperitif or Cigarrillos 43, which had its tobacco factory a few blocks from here, where the Modern Museum is currently operating.
This bar was the scene of several scenes of Argentine movies and was frequented by prominent cultural figures such as Tita Merello or Ernesto Sábato.
