Laura Ana “Tita” Merello fue una popular actriz y cantante argentina que se destacó por ser una de las primeras mujeres en incursionar en la modalidad vocal del tango y la milonga en las primeras décadas del siglo XX. Nació en el año 1904 en esta propiedad, que funcionaba como uno de los típicos conventillos que eran muy comunes en toda la ciudad y tuvo una infancia difícil, marcada por la pobreza.
En su adolescencia comenzó a trabajar como corista en el Teatro Avenida y con interpretaciones de tango en los bares de la Avenida de Mayo y ya en 1923, con casi 20 años, se integró como vedette en las revistas del Teatro Maipo.
En el año 1933 realizó su primera actuación en cine con la película ¡Tango!, también la primera película sonora argentina.
En el año 1990 fue declarada “Ciudadana Ilustre de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires” por ser considerada un “mito viviente de la iconografía porteña”.
Tras su muerte, en el año 2002, el servicio memorial fue realizado en la Iglesia de San Pedro Telmo, a pocas cuadras de aquí, donde Tita había sido bautizada 98 años antes.

She was born in 1904 in this property, one of the typical tenements that were very common throughout the city, and had a difficult childhood, marked by poverty.
In his adolescence she began to work as a chorus girl at the Teatro Avenida. In 1923, when she was almost 20 years old, she joined the Teatro Maipo's revues as a vedette.
In 1933 she made her first film performance in the movie ¡Tango!, the first Argentine sound film.
In 1990 she was declared "Illustrious Citizen of the City of Buenos Aires" for being considered a "living myth of Buenos Aires iconography".
After her death, in 2002, the memorial service was held at the San Pedro Telmo Church, a few blocks from here, where Tita had been baptized 98 years before.
